SEED PRIMING
These pre-sowing applications to seed are defined as the controlled uptake of water and nutrients at the level which will move the mechanism necessary for germination but will not allow the root emergence.
GOALS OF SEED PRIMING
-
Priming improves and increase germination and emergence rate of seeds and seedlings and allows rapid plant development in unsuitable conditions.
-
Rapid and uniform root formation and seedling emergence provides resistance and/or tolerance both to diseases and drought stress beside earliness.
-
Especially in some species it provides breakage of thermal dormancy and correspondingly guarantied germination of seeds.
-
By way of uniform germination, emergence and growth, plants are able to benefit from irrigation, fertilization and spraying at the highest level.
-
Priming contributes to the formation of strong seedlings by providing the most efficient use of the nutrients in the seed during germination.
